The project investigates the deep-sea ecosystem along the ultraslow-spreading Arctic Mid-Ocean Ridge. To fully represent diversity of habitats, their characteristics, and potential direct and indirect impacts of mining activities, the project focuses on habitat types also associated with seabed mineral deposits:

- Surrounding areas at the vent periphery
